Our Story

Springfield Plaza Laundromat and Cleaners was first purchased in 1983 by Mr. and Mrs. Malek.  It was originally located on Old Keene Mill Rd, where Malek’s Pizza Palace is now located.

In 1981 Mr. Malek had been running the neighborhood pizza place (currently known as Malek’s Pizza Palace) and had found himself regularly needing to help out in crisis that came up at the unattended Laundromat which neighbored his store.

That same Laundromat came to be for sale, and he bought it in hopes of expanding his restaurant.  While trying to raise the capital for this project, he started learning about washers and dryers and started to replace the units with more reliable washers and dryers.  In the process he taught himself how to repair machines and started to become interested in developing the laundry.  Since 1983 Mr. Malek has expanded his store 3 times and moved the Laundromat 2 times within the Springfield Plaza.

He has involved his 2 children, Elizabeth and Jonathan in business from an early age.  Currently Elizabeth and her husband, Rich are working together with Mr. and Mrs. Malek in running the store.   Jonathan is also available at a moments notice, when needs arise.  Jonathan and his family currently work with Mr. Malek in running Malek’s Pizza Palace.

Mr. Malek has a great love for the coin laundry business and the clientelle.   He is a healthy 82 years young.  He loves to work on machine repair with his son-in-law, Rich and to engage customers in singing international songs.  Mrs. Malek is also involved and works behind the scenes to make sure the business is kept in order - on many levels.

Daily responsibilities would never be completed without the dedicated staff who work together to keep the store clean and running smoothly.Springfield Plaza Laundromat and Cleaners was first purchased in 1983 by Mr. and Mrs. Malek.  It was originally located on Old Keene Mill Rd, where Malek’s Pizza Palace is now located.
